Bryan Gets Promoted!
Bryan was offered a promotion to Team Lead for the Division of Continuing Education's Computer Operations department. The position opened up when the previous team lead, Russell Alstrum, left BYU to work for another company. This is the second time Bryan applied for the Team Lead position. Almost exactly one year ago this same position was vacated by Ben Rotz, Bryan's initial trainer when he was hired to work for the DCE.
This promotion came during a hiring freeze at BYU. Similar to the time when he was originally hired on full time in 2002, a special exception had to be received from the president of BYU to fill the position. This position posting intended to get a new body into the computer operations department. Since Bryan was hired from within, the same position posting was used to hire someone into the developer position that he vacated. Problems filling his old position required Bryan to keep his promotion quiet for an additional two weeks after officially being hired into it. This meant that his job duties at work didn't change much until the promotion was able to be publicly announced, which happened a couple weeks later.
The new position brings with it a considerable raise that has allowed us to get a new car. We purchased a used 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan XST with stow 'n go seating, but no entertainment package, to Bryan's disappointment. But we got a good deal on it and got it just in time to take it down to Arizona for Trayton's baby blessing, Scott's new baby boy.
Now that things are in full swing with Bryan's new position at work, he does a lot less coding and more management, bringing his job duties more in line with what he was doing for the Life Sciences Computing Support office, less than two years ago.
