Our trip to Santa Clara California

Saturday, 31 March 2007

Bryan had a Software Developer's conference in Santa Clara California March 18th thru March 23rd so we decided to make is a family vacation and extend it 2 more days.

We had a fabulous time!  We flew out of Salt Lake on Sunday the 18th, with 9 bags in tow; 6 of which were Ellie's!!  She had her: car seat, baby crib, my lap top for her movies, suit case, diaper bag & a stroller.   Bry and I each had a suitcase and then he had his computer.  NEVER AGAIN!!! Oh well, "live & learn", right?  However all of those things proved useful when we were in the hotel.

When we checked in, we were on the 12th floor (12 of 14) and the room was pretty small.  The next morning I discovered how filthy the carpets were.  Ellie spent less than a half hour on the floor and her light blue pants were almost black from crawling on the floor.  I went down to the front desk and explained my plight with them.  I was so nice about it, which isn't my usual way of getting things changed.  By early afternoon we were moved up to the 14th floor in a room that had a balcony.

The funny part of the story was that I had no way of getting a hold of Bryan while he was in classes to tell him that we had moved rooms.  It took him a while to find us at the end of his day.  We totally lucked out.

However, by Tuesday afternoon, Ellie had picked up a flu bug.  It was awful.  she did nothing but throw up all day.  I felt so bad for her.  She isn't very cuddly and that's how I knew that she was sick; she kept crawling in to my lap wanting to be held.  I'd hold her and she's throw up all over me.  It was sooooo gross.

On Thursday morning I came down with the same "dreaded gamboo".  I don't remember having the flu like that, that badly in any of my adult life.  I just hoped and prayed that Bryan wouldn't get it and miss his classes.  Fortunately (maybe), he didn't get the bug until Sunday morning when we had to fly home.

On Saturday we tried to get up to San Francisco to do some site seeing and have dinner with my Aunt Anne but I was too sick still to head up.  We had even left the hotel in an effort to make it up there.  We stopped for lunch on our way out of town when Bryan simply looked at me and said, "We don't have to go....".  I was pushing so hard to go that it was becoming counterproductive.  We went back to the hotel and called my aunt to cancel.  I was so disappointed!!!  I wanted to eat lobster but didn't get the chance.

We all still got to bask in the sunlight & enjoy time as a family.  Bryan got a lot of information to help him in his job.  I got a lot of rest and Ellie got spoiled (I think).

By Sunday morning Bryan was feeling the affects of the virus.  He had a rough time traveling home.  He was so gray/green from being sick that I wondered if he would make it home in one piece.  We did make it home and he did survive.

We felt blessed with the opportunity to go but we are so happy to be home again.
